Special Delivery

Special Delivery is the visitation ministry of Joni and Friends which provides a gift of Christian books, tapes or CD's, and other materials designed to bring encouragement and the hope of Jesus to a person affected by a disability.

Who can participate in a Special Delivery outreach?

Joni and Friends seeks anyone who has the heart and time to encourage those affected by a disability. These people may consist of teams of volunteers from churches, such as small groups, children from Sunday School classes, and Care Ministries. Also, individuals, Boy and Girl Scout troops and groups of children that are home schooled have participated with us as well.

How is Special Delivery given?

The teams of volunteers from a church, boy/girl scout troop, etc. select groups of people that could consist of individuals or families that they know or are in their congregation, in residential facilities, skilled nursing homes, rehabilitation hospitals or in their community who are coping with a disability.

The team of volunteers will get together at a scheduled time to wrap the Special Delivery packages and then deliver them to the designated location.

Who supplies the Special Delivery packages?

Joni and Friends provides all the encouragement materials that are used in the packages. However, church groups are welcome to add items to the packages if they choose to, such as: handmade gift cards, toiletry items, etc.

If you would know of anyone who would like to receive a Special Delivery, please contact Sherill Smothers at (916) 791-5715 or email DanA@Baysideonline.com.

Wheels for the World

The international outreach of Joni and Friends

The World Health Organization estimates that there is a need of over 18 million wheelchairs around the world. In some of these countries the cost of a wheelchair can equal a year's wages, resulting in the impossibility for people affected by disability to ever receive one. Living in isolation, lacking simple mobility and cut off from life, many of the disabled are also tragically cut off from the local church. As a result, many have never heard the gospel message or experienced the love of Christ.

Wheels for the World aims to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the disabled around the world by providing wheelchairs and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. We also do this by connecting the disabled with the church through creating disabilty awareness and by educating and training the local churches in disability ministry.

Wheels for the World through the year 2004 has distributed over 25,000 wheelchairs to over 60 countries and have trained hundreds of ministry and community leaders, including people with disabilities. As a result many have placed their trust in Christ, are experiencing new life and purpose with their new mobility, and disability ministry is growing all over the world.

Family Retreats

A program of Joni and Friends designed to provide respite, fun, and encouragement to families affected by disability.

Meaningful family life does not come easy. From out of nowhere come stress and pressures that cause strain on your family’s relationships. In a family affected by disability, sometimes it doesn’t take much to push it over the top. When the kids are wearing on each other…when you feel like you can’t remember the last time you enjoyed a peaceful time together…when you think, “I just can’t make it another day”… we have a solution.

Since 1991 families from around the country have attended Joni and Friends Family Retreats seeking a time of rest and recreation, Christ-centered encouragement, and the tools to build a stronger family.

A Week of Family Fun

Held at accessible camp and conference centers across the United States during the summer, Family Retreats provide dynamic five-day programs that refresh and strengthen your whole family. The retreat offers a change of pace where you can have fun together in a safe and accepting environment. You’ll be able to get away and enjoy God’s creation…you’ll meet and fellowship with others who face similar concerns…you’ll build lasting memories together as a family…as well as a renewed hope in God.
